How to upload SharePoint and OneDrive files to another website
Company files live in SharePoint and OneDrive, but the form you need to fill in wants a file from your computer. Here's how to bridge the two.
The usual way: download, then upload
- In SharePoint or OneDrive, select the file and click Download. Several files or a folder download as a .zip.
- On the other website, click the upload box and pick the file from Downloads.
- Remember to delete the downloaded copy, especially for confidential work files.
The faster way: copy and paste
FilePaster is a Chrome extension that works with SharePoint (work and school accounts, including OneDrive for work and team-site libraries), as well as personal OneDrive:
- Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
- In your drive, select the files or folders and press Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac).
- On the other website, click the upload box and press Alt+Shift+V (⌥ Option+Shift+V on a Mac).
Does it work with my company's SharePoint?
If you can open the files in SharePoint or OneDrive for work in Chrome, FilePaster can copy them. It uses the sign-in already in your browser, so your IT team doesn't have to set anything up, and you don't need to install a Microsoft app. Files go straight from SharePoint to the website you paste into. They never pass through a FilePaster server.
FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year. See how it works.
