How to attach OneDrive or SharePoint files to a Gmail email
Gmail's Insert from Drive button only knows Google Drive. Here's how to attach a file from OneDrive or SharePoint as a real attachment.
The usual way: download, then attach
- In OneDrive or SharePoint, select the file and click Download. Several files or a folder download as a .zip.
- In Gmail, click the paper clip and pick the file from your Downloads folder.
- Delete the downloaded copy afterwards, especially for work files.
You can also share a link instead, but the person you're emailing may not have access to your company's SharePoint.
The faster way: drag from OneDrive and drop into Gmail
With the FilePaster Chrome extension:
- Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
- In OneDrive or SharePoint, drag the files out of the list, hover over your Gmail tab until it opens, and drop them on the email you're writing.
They attach as real files. A folder attaches as a .zip. You can also copy with Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac) and paste with Alt+Shift+V.
FilePaster works with personal OneDrive and with SharePoint and OneDrive for work or school, using the Microsoft sign-in already in your browser. Files go straight from Microsoft to Gmail, never through a FilePaster server.
FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year.
