How to submit Google Drive files to Canvas, Blackboard or Moodle

Your assignment is in Google Drive or OneDrive, but the course site wants an upload from your computer. Here's the quick way to hand it in.

The usual way

  1. In Google Docs, choose File → Download and pick Word or PDF. In OneDrive, select the file and click Download.
  2. On the course site, open the assignment, click the upload button and pick the file from Downloads.

Some course sites can connect to Google Drive or OneDrive, but only if your school turned that on, and each site does it differently.

The faster way: copy in your drive, paste on the course site

FilePaster is a Chrome extension that works with any upload box:

  1. Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
  2. In your drive, select the files or folders and press Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac).
  3. On the other website, click the upload box and press Alt+Shift+V (⌥ Option+Shift+V on a Mac).

Google Docs, Sheets and Slides arrive as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. It works with personal accounts and with school Google and Microsoft accounts you're signed in to in Chrome, so nothing needs to be set up by your school.

Before you submit, check the course's required format. If it asks for a PDF, keep a PDF copy in your drive and copy that one.

FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year.
