How to share Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive files in Slack as files, not links
Paste a Drive link into Slack and people have to open it and may need to request access. Here's how to post the file itself.
The usual way
Download the file from your drive, then drag it from Downloads into the Slack message box. Or share a link, which only works for people who have access to the file.
The faster way: copy in your drive, paste in Slack
With the FilePaster Chrome extension, using Slack in Chrome:
- Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
- In your drive, select the files and press Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac).
- In Slack, click the message box and press Alt+Shift+V (⌥ Option+Shift+V on a Mac).
The files are added to your message as if you'd picked them from your computer. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides arrive as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. A folder arrives as a .zip.
FilePaster is a Chrome extension, so this works with Slack in Chrome, not the Slack desktop app.
FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year.
