How freelancers can send client files from Google Drive or Dropbox to Upwork, Fiverr and client portals
Clients share files in whatever drive they use, and every platform you deliver on wants a file from your computer. Here's how to stop shuttling files through your Downloads folder.
The usual way
Download each file from the client's drive, upload it to the platform, then clean up Downloads. With several clients on Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive, that's dozens of round trips a week. A folder comes down as a .zip, sometimes several, which you then unpack.
The faster way: copy and paste between tabs
FilePaster is a Chrome extension that works with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint, all with the same two shortcuts:
- Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
- In your drive, select the files or folders and press Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac).
- On the other website, click the upload box and press Alt+Shift+V (⌥ Option+Shift+V on a Mac).
Or drag the files from the drive tab, hover over the other tab and drop them on the upload area. A folder arrives as one .zip on websites. To keep a local copy, paste the folder into Finder or File Explorer with its subfolders intact (this needs the small FilePaster Helper app).
Good to know
- No new logins: FilePaster uses the drive accounts you're already signed in to in Chrome, including the client accounts you've been added to.
- Files go straight from the drive to the platform, never through a FilePaster server.
- Pastes into a website are limited to 1 GB at a time.
FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year.
