How to upload images from Google Drive or Dropbox to the WordPress media library
Your photos are in a cloud drive and WordPress wants them from your computer. Here's how to skip the download step.
The usual way
- Download the images from your drive. Several files or a folder download as a .zip, which you unpack.
- In WordPress, go to Media → Add New and drag the files in, or click Select Files.
The faster way: copy in your drive, paste in WordPress
With the FilePaster Chrome extension:
- Install FilePaster in Chrome (7-day free trial, no card).
- In your drive, select the images and press Alt+Shift+C (⌥ Option+Shift+C on a Mac).
- In WordPress, open Media → Add New and press Alt+Shift+V (⌥ Option+Shift+V on a Mac). Or drag the files from your drive tab, hover over the WordPress tab and drop them on the upload area.
Copy the images themselves rather than a folder: a folder arrives on websites as a single .zip, and the media library doesn't unpack zips.
FilePaster copies files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint and pastes them into any website or a folder on your computer. 7-day free trial, then $29 a year.
